The Gumma film award ceremony, which featured 23 Ethiopian films from 2012 nominated in 17 categories, took place on February 17 at the National Theatre. Yelomi Shita therefore won the 2012 Gumma Film Award for Best Film of the Year. Best Actress of the Year went to Elizabeth Melaku, and Best Actor went to Solomon Bogale. The 88-year-old director Michel Papatakis, who produced Ethiopia’s first 35mm colour film, Gumma, about 40 years ago under the reign of Emperor Hailesellasie I, was this year’s recipient of the Gumma film award’s Lifetime Achievement prize.
