Monk’s Letter About The Benefits Of Living In Monasteries

I wanted to briefly discuss the advantages of establishing a monastery with you.

There were monasteries throughout Guru Shakyamuni Buddha’s time, and numerous Sangha resided there. There were other monasteries at the period, but they are now buried beneath the dirt, as is the case at Shravastri, where Shakyamuni Buddha spent the most of his time.

He lived there for roughly twenty years and five of those were nearby.

Following that, a hamlet was established above the monastery, and that is how it has been for over 3,000 years—well, maybe 2,800 years—since then.

The Sangha wouldn’t have a place to live together, practice, or study without monasteries.

They are unable to survive in the fields or on the barren mountains by themselves.

The Sangha wouldn’t have a place to live together, practice, or study without monasteries.

Since then, there have been numerous monasteries since they couldn’t merely live on the naked hillsides or in the fields without any shelter.

Monasteries are typically located outside of cities and away from distractions.

The major goal of monasteries is to control the mind and keep it focused on the Dharma and free from distractions, which are the root causes of attachment, rage, and other negative emotions.

As a result, monasteries are constructed outside of cities, in remote locations, and far from potential hazards.

This is the case so that nuns and monks can better uphold their vows.

Monasteries assist them.
