A smart classroom was introduced by Ethio Telecom at Addis Ababa University. In partnership with the Ministry of Education, Ethio Telecom constructed a four-kilometer campus at Addis Abeba University, which is now operational. At the launch programme were other invited guests such as the CEO of Ethio Telecom Frehiwot Tamru, the Minister of Education Berhanu Nega (Prof.), and the President of Addis Ababa University Tase Woldhana (Prof.).

The use of various contemporary technologies in the smart classroom is said to facilitate learning. It has been highlighted in particular that educational institutions have made significant contributions to the digital transformation of the education sector, to improving education quality, to reducing teaching costs, and to lowering the costs of purchasing resources needed for the laboratory. It is also noted that it will significantly help close the access gap between those who use digital technology and those who do not, as well as facilitate easy access to educational information. According to reports, Ethio Telecom is a major player in the field of education and is contributing to national education reform and the realisation of the Digital Ethiopia vision.
