Kidney Failure Patient Asking For Financial Support

Your kidneys are ill, injured, aging, or both if you have chronic kidney disease (CKD). Your kidneys may thus not function as well as they once did as a result. Chronic kidney disease can be brought on by a number of causes (see later). Chronic refers to something that has been going on for a while. Contrary to what some believe, it does not signify severe.

You may suffer from a minor chronic illness. Mild CKD affects plenty of people. Previously known as chronic renal failure, the term chronic kidney disease is preferable because failure implies that the kidneys have completely ceased to function. This is not usually the case with chronic renal disease. Reduced or impaired kidney function is described as some of the glomeruli not filtering as much as they should.

A blood test is used for the eGFR test to measure a substance called creatinine. A byproduct of muscle breakdown is creatinine. The kidneys typically remove creatinine from the blood. The amount of creatinine in your blood increases if your kidneys are not functioning properly and the glomeruli are not filtering as much blood as they should. Your blood creatinine level, age, and sex are used to compute your eGFR. For those of African or Caribbean ancestry, the computation must be modified. View the distinct leaflets titled
