Former Military Officer Breaks His Silence

The secret of the treatment was approved for Sabhat Nega, which was denied for General Tefera Mamo. In his interview, General Tefera Mamo said I am in danger of losing my right leg. After his termination from the Amhara Regional State Special Forces, he appeared in various media outlets with different controversial comments.

In his media appearances, he had criticized the federal government for working to attack and weaken the Amhara Regional State security structure including the Fano. He also blamed some senior members of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) for not having the necessary military skills and accused them of disloyalty.

Ten years ago, Brigadier General Tefera Mamo, who had previously served as a senior officer in the ENDF, had been charged with conspiring against the former ruling party, the EPRDF. He was accused of plotting a coup along with the late Brigadier General Asaminew Tsige and eight other senior officers, and was sentenced to nine years in prison. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held a number of positions after being released from jail shortly before taking office. He oversaw the Amhara region’s Special Forces during Tigray forces’ recent occupation of some Amhara and Afar regions. He was fired from his job, though, a few months ago for an unspecified reason.
