Sayat Demissie is an Ethiopian actress, director, singer, and model. Demissie, who was born in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, started her modeling career at the age of 17, the same year she won the Miss Ethiopia beauty pageant. She then competed in the Miss World pageant in 2004, placing in the top 20.
Alongside Tilahun Zewege, Demissie made her screen debut in the critically praised movie “Sara.”
Additionally, she has acted in box office hits including Laundry Boy, Selanchi, Adamt (2013), and most recently Der weiße thiopier (2015). (she is Ethiopian). Demissie made her debut as a performer in 2011 with the release of her album “Kifel Sost” vol.1, which featured her single “Tew Maneh”.
Demissie was the last of a family of six’s four children when she was born in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia in 1986. In 2004, Demissie finished high school. Demissie is outspoken about her Pan-Africanism and feminism. Demissie joined Plan International’s “because I’m a girl” campaign, which supports the youth-led, international movement for girls’ rights and gender equality.
