The Addis Ababa Police Commission has announced the arrest of multiple individuals involved in what is locally known as “Shuashua” robberies – a crime scheme involving public transport vehicles.
The arrests were made in two different locations: around Ayer Tena in Kolfe Keranio Sub-city Woreda 5, and Trunesh Beijing area in Akaki Kality Sub-city Woreda 9.
In the first incident, police apprehended two suspects operating a vehicle with plate number Code 3 20947 Oro in the Ayer Tena area. The suspects were caught red-handed with nine stolen mobile phones, thanks to collaboration between police and local community members.
In a separate operation on November 9, 2024, around 9:00 AM, police arrested suspects who were posing as taxi drivers, conductors, and passengers in a minibus with plate number Code 3 26019 Deh. The suspects had robbed a female passenger of her Samsung phone and 20,000 Birr before attempting to forcefully eject her from the vehicle. They were apprehended by taxi queue controllers and police officers with all evidence in their possession.
The police emphasized that “Shuashua” crimes typically occur in public transportation vehicles and urged the public to remain vigilant while using public transport.
