A New Coffee Company Launched By The Weeknd

successful. You may like the music, though. Samra Origins, a new line of coffee products from the musician and Oakland, California-based specialty coffee company Blue Bottle Coffee, will launch on May 9. It bears The Weeknd’s mother’s name and pays homage to her Ethiopian heritage, whose culture has long been regarded as the origin of coffee. The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, was born in Canada to immigrants from Ethiopia named Makkonen and Samra Tesfaye. In a press release, he stated, “Ethiopian culture is an important component of my identity and I am proud to be working with the team at Blue Chai Coffee to illuminate Ethiopian traditions, values, and of course coffee.”

It only makes sense that The Weeknd would have his own line of coffee since Ethiopia is where the coffee heritage originated. He revealed today that he will collaborate with Blue Bottle Coffee to create a product line with the moniker Samra Origins, honouring his mother. Before settling on the Ethiopian blend that most closely resembled the one his mother brewed at home, he and his mother tried several Ethiopian blends. The flavour profile, which also features notes of fresh fruit and flowers, is then refined.
