The Tigray Interim Administration issued a written statement today, November 10, 2024, expressing deep concerns about escalating tensions within the region. The administration highlighted that differences have been intensifying over time while facing a coordinated campaign to obstruct and weaken its plans.
The statement particularly emphasized how disagreements among TPLF senior leaders since August 2016 E.C. have created significant obstacles to addressing fundamental public concerns. The administration accused a faction that conducted what they termed an “illegal conference” of systematically undermining their initiatives.
“This faction’s actions have evolved beyond merely obstructing the interim administration’s plans to actively promoting government overthrow and lawlessness,” the statement noted. Recent signs of governmental instability and disorder in Mekelle city, Northern, and Central zones were cited as evidence of the group’s lawless behavior.
The administration revealed that the faction is currently spreading misleading claims about having “complete control over all levels of governmental leadership.” They warned that “the group’s willingness to commit any wrongdoing for the sake of power has been repeatedly demonstrated” and dismissed the faction’s claims of having support from military leaders as merely serving their narrow pursuit of power.
Furthermore, the administration pointed out that this group has publicly rejected peace initiatives started by religious fathers. Despite these challenges, the Interim Administration’s senior leadership expressed their continued readiness for peaceful dialogue and resolution, calling for public support of their peace efforts.
This statement follows recent mediation attempts by Tigray Orthodox religious fathers, who had brought together Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael and Getachew Reda’s groups for face-to-face discussions, which ultimately proved unsuccessful beyond receiving counsel from the religious leaders.
